The full-time job pays $2,374.69 – $3,626.38 Biweekly, $61,741.94 – $94,285.88 Annually and closes at 8 a.m., Mountain time, on Thursday, Jan. 28.

The Public Information Officer duties will under general supervision, perform professional public information work in the Public Affairs Unit under the Public Affairs Director. Work involves the dissemination of public information regarding the Sheriff’s Office, communicating and publicizing the priorities, policies and action of the Office, serving as the official spokesperson, and developing, implementing and maintaining media relations and public relations strategies for the Office. Employee is responsible for producing publications and writing news releases, maintaining liaison with media representatives and answering media-related questions from a variety of sources.

Employee works closely with the Sheriff, Public Affairs Director, Community Relations Manager, Digital Communications Manager, Patrol, Investigation, Detention Support Services, the District Attorney’s Office, and County Public Information Department personnel in writing, editing, and producing a variety of printed and electronic materials.

Will be a part of the Jefferson County Type 3 Incident Management Team and respond to call outs as a PIO. Will have involvement in the annual Citizens Academy and other special events as needed. Reports to the Public Affairs Director.

The Ideal Candidate Will Possess

  • Media/public relations experience
  • Law enforcement/criminal justice knowledge and/or experience
  • Strategic planning/crisis communications skills
  • Excellent writing/editing skills
  • Effective at expressing complex ideas orally and in writing
  • Ability to work flexible schedule/available on 24-hour basis
  • Social media knowledge/experience
  • Experience composing correspondence, news releases, newsletters, speeches, editorials, annual reports, etc.
  • Versed in AP style writing, spelling, punctuation, grammar and format
  • Versed with software products used to create graphics, design layouts, artwork, charts, presentation materials, etc.
