Responsibilities

  • Accurate collection and dissemination of information related to all TBI related matters utilizing email and social media
  • Acceptance and response to all requests in accordance to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and TN open record laws
  • Creation and distribution of press releases
  • Coordination and execution of press conferences
  • Brief senior staff/ supervision on media related matters
  • Conducting media interviews via any/all platforms (on-camera, phone, email) and any other interview requests with TBI personnel
  • Maintenance/modification of TBI social media accounts
  • Maintenance/modification of TBI website content
  • Swift response to all requests/inquiries from the media and/or public
  • Field response to TBI related incidents
  • Coordination of meetings and TBI presentations with various media markets and law enforcement agencies across the state
  • Continuous training in advanced media relations and public relations topics
  • Review and approval of any speeches/presentations by TBI supervision to the public
  • Being “on-call” nights and weekends
  • Attendance to internal social functions, ceremonies, graduations, etc.
  • Establishment and/or maintenance of working relationships with all media outlets and law enforcement agencies
  • Continuous education of modifications to state law and/or criminal justice processes

The applicant must have an advanced background in law enforcement, media/public relations, communications, journalism or a combination of experience. A bachelor’s degree is required, but a Master’s degree or higher is preferred. The applicant must live no more than an hour from the Knoxville, TN area and be willing to travel. Must work on-call nights and weekends. The applicant cannot be a convicted felon and must have a good driving record.
