Public Information Officer

Serving as a key member of the DHS Cabinet, the Public Information Officer (PIO) cultivates and continuously interacts with agency leadership to know and understand the initiatives, goals and objectives in the strategic performance plans, priorities, and perspectives of the Directors and the agency. As the agency spokesperson, this position responds to information requests and articulates the department’s position on various subjects, some of which may be sensitive or controversial in nature. This position develops and executes communication strategies.

This position requires 5 years of relevant, progressive experience within either the field of journalism, or reporting experience for a national news outlet, or as the spokesperson for a multi-faceted corporation, national non-profit, or state or federal agencies. The role requires an understanding and compassion for the populations we serve, the ability to develop and maintain relationships with the media, and the need to stay abreast of the latest trends in the rapidly changing communications industry. Superior writing skills must be exhibited, as well as communications strategy or policy development and implementation.
Generous benefit package & salary commensurate with experience: $ 66,352 – $ 102,044
