The City of Newport News is recruiting for a Communication Specialist SR- Public Information Officer. Under general supervision, this position is responsible for assisting in the development,
implementation, coordination, and communication of a variety of public information and media relations programs, services and activities designed to keep the public informed of the Police Department’s programs, accomplishments and position on current issues.
May serve as a lead worker. It requires any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, English, Marketing or a related field and 3-5 years of directly related experience in media relations, communications, marketing or public relations.
Prior law enforcement experience is preferred. Anticipated hiring range: $44,651 – $79,565.
