Community Relations Specialist

Opelika, Alabama

This position is FLSA exempt (full-time).  This is a civilian position that will work closely with the Chief of Police, Captain of the Community Relations/Special Services Division and the Opelika Community Relations Officer to coordinate, produce, implement, and manage the police department’s overall communications and engagement strategies.

This position impacts the relationship between the City and its residents through distribution of critical information and is responsible for promoting a positive public image, creating transparency, improving public engagement, and managing the impact of emergency and crisis situations. The position is responsible for marketing/public relations planning and implementation, creating promotional materials, interacting with City employees and the community, and the presentation of reports.

Work is performed in coordination with the Captain of the Community Relations/Special Services Division. Work involves communication and direct contact with the media and public as well as extensive involvement with the technical aspects of producing various media and audio-visual material.
