Public Information Officer

Bedford VA

Implements policies as related to the delivery of a standardized/cohesive communications strategy. Balances direct communications work with higher level development of the communications function through collaboration with all departments; serves as the County spokesperson responsible for clear/concise, internal/external communication of County activities, community outreach, citizen engagement, public relations, public information, and media relations; guides strategic direction of the County as it relates to communications and advises the Administrators Office on communications strategy; directs development/execution of all public relations activities and manages media relations for the County; and provides direction to other County departments on communications and media relations practices, while also providing support to those functions by creating awareness of their services.  Administratively, position maintains and upgrades the County website, social media, and other digital communications tools utilizing graphic design, videos, and photography; and assists with the operation, programming and maintenance of audio/video equipment.  Position provides project and special event support and performs related work as required.  Work is performed under general supervision of the County Administrator with latitude for independent judgment and action.

Police Public Information Officer

Orlando FL

Performs administrative and professional work in public and media relations by providing oversight of all internal and external communications for the Orlando Police Department, ensuring its message is consistent and engaging. Responsibilities include serving as a secondary spokesperson for the Chief of Police and the Orlando Police Department, responding to news media inquiries, coordinating press conferences and appearances by the Chief, composing talking points and press releases for police related activities and incidents, and monitors local and regional news sources for topics of interest and importance to the Orlando Police Department.  

Additionally, an employee assigned to this position is responsible for website content development and public records policy management, social media account management, creating the strategy for content creation across multiple digital platforms, advising on web-based communications and online engagement initiatives and ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal electronic communications regulations, records, archive, and subscription management. Serves as a liaison with City communication staff to ensure consistency in messaging that is aligned with the City’s mission and priorities. Work is performed under the administrative direction of the Police Staff Director to the Chief of Police and is reviewed through reports submitted, conference and results achieved.

Public Information Specialist

We are looking for an individual that is talented in videography, video editing, public outreach and communication to join our Public Information Team! This position will primarily be focused on processing and redacting body-worn camera video, responding to public records requests and organizing community outreach events. Additionally, this position will be part of a team of two Public Information Specialists and will assist with social media content creation and management, news media requests, press releases, and other responsibilities.
