Public Information Coordinator – Lexington County, South Carolina

Responsible for the development, posting and curation of all content to the S.C. Emergency Management Division’s multimedia platforms (i.e. website, social media, and new media technologies).

The Public Information Coordinator reports to the Chief of Public Information and External Affairs.

The position ensures web pages/content and social media posts are strategically planned, created, executed and evaluated for effectiveness. The position requires on-call availability and serves as spokesperson and media contact at the direction of the Chief PIO. Works with the Chief PIO to develop and implement a multimedia communications plan.

Develops, edits and maintains visual assets including video, podcasts, graphics, images and adaptations of printed designs for communication use. Manages use of original artwork or adaptation of printed designs to produce digital interactive media. Drafts and edits Associated Press-styled feature stories and news releases. Serves as Division photographer and videographer; maintains both still photography and video archives. Design graphics for use in fliers and multimedia content to promote the Division’s brand, programs and events. In coordination with the Chief PIO, provides consultation and guidance to Division sections in planning and creating new multimedia, web and social media content and maintaining existing content and communications. Develops web and new media initiatives to meet the changing communications needs of the Division. Responds to all requests from media outlets in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) and SC open record laws.

As needed, works outside typical business hours to assist media in making deadlines or supporting the Division at special events. Performs other duties as assigned by the Chief PIO, the SCEMD Director, the SCEMD Chief of Staff, or other member of the Division’s leadership. Serves as one of the Division’s Duty Officers to respond to after-hour emergency notifications.
