The State of Utah Labor Commission is looking for an experienced Public Information Officer (PIO). You will manage the public relations activities, Workplace Safety Grant Program, and report directly to the Commissioner.

Principal Duties

This position is responsible for two major roles within the Commission, the PIO responsibilities and the Workplace Safety Grant Program responsibilities. The PIO duties are as follows:

  • Assisting in the formulation of media strategy and policy.
  • Disseminating information which may have an impact on agency, public and/or governmental relations.
  • Researching and answering inquiries and complaints, as well as resolving public information issues.
  • Interacting with the public, media, political entities, and/or governmental organizations.
  • Serving on boards, councils, committees, or task forces.
  • Representing agency at formal and informal meetings and public hearings.
  • Assisting agency with legislative requirements and issues.

Key responsibilities:

  • Manage and coordinate the Department of Transportation’s (DOT&PF) Southcoast Region and the Alaska Marine Highway System (AMHS) communications, including media relations, public outreach, social media and public relations;
  • Respond to legislative requests for information, and coordinate with the department’s legislative liaison;
  • Communicate with legislators, local governments, media, state agencies, and members of the public on regional and statewide issues;
  • Advise management team on ongoing public relations issues;
  • Act as single point of contact as needed for external affair;
  • Work with public and private agencies, local governments, organizations, public officials, client groups, and the general public to promote an understanding of Southcoast Region, AMHS and DOT&PF functions and services;
  • Provide support to the Preconstruction, Construction, and field Planning section in all capital project communications which includes public meetings and hearings related to the delivery of the capital program;
  • Distribute information proactively to the public through the news media, social media, websites, emails and other external facing platforms as appropriate;
  • Manage and execute the Southcoast Navigator program to support public notification of construction activities.

This position develops and oversees the city’s internal and external communications strategy, coordinating with elected officials, department directors, division managers, and external partners to ensure effective and consistent public relations policies and practices. The officer is a member of the city manager’s senior leadership team and must take initiative and work independently with minimal direct oversight.

Writes, reviews, and disseminates speeches, news releases, policies, newsletters, brochures, fliers, social media, website content, videos and annual reports. Acts as or provides support to the designated city spokesperson during major city events and emergency operations. Builds relationships with print, radio and television media representatives to promote coverage of municipal activities. Initiates public relations programs to promote community understanding, increase support for the City, and improve the city’s public perception.

Digital Records Technician

Location: Franklin, Tennessee

Purpose of Job

The Digital Records Technician reports to the Office of Public Affairs, providing highly-technical assistance with downloading, securing, maintaining, and storing all digital recordings, evidentiary and non-evidentiary, created by Franklin Police Officers in the course of their official duty.

The Digital Records Technician will monitor staff compliance in the use, upload, storage, and retention requirements set forth in Franklin Police Department General Orders, and will report suspected non-compliance to the Public Affairs Lieutenant.

This position will assist with the fulfillment of digital record copies needed by the District Attorney’s Office, command staff for administrative review needs, and other official purposes. The Digital Records Technician will provide the Public Affairs Lieutenant with legally and appropriately redacted records that satisfy open records requests. This position will perform audits of the digital recording program and report outcomes to the Public Affairs Lieutenant. The Digital Records Technician will assist with policy and procedure development, and implementation and management of the body camera program.

The Digital Records Technician will complete or assist with the field acquisition, preservation, and enhancement of surveillance video at secondary locations captured by third-party systems, and will enhance or assist with the enhancement needed for investigation and/or public release to aid in the arrest of wanted suspects.

This position will assist in the production of graphics and other digital media needed for promotion by Franklin Police Public Affairs, and other tasks as directed by the Public Affairs Lieutenant.
