The City of Dublin is seeking candidates for Director of Communications & Public Information who reports to the City Manager and supervises eleven (11) staff including a Public Affairs Officer, Public Information Officers, a Multimedia Communications Specialist, a Digital and Brand Manager, a Digital and Graphic Designer, and an Administrative Support III.

The Director’s responsibilities include coordinating and implementing the City-sponsored internal and external communications and publications, marketing, media relations, social/digital media, brand alignment, multi-media productions, public affairs, crisis communication, and engagement with employees, key stakeholders, and other priority audiences.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or other relevant fields and extensive progressively responsible managerial public relations, communications, journalism, or other relevant experience. A Master’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or other related fields is preferred.

Salary range is $91,400 – $131,400. Starting salary is competitive and negotiable based on the qualifications and experience of the individual selected.

The City of Lacey, Washington is seeking a dynamic, motivated professional to serve as the next Assistant City Manager.  This is an exciting executive leadership opportunity to work in a dynamic and effective organization. Reporting directly to the City Manager and serving as a peer to the City’s six (6) other department heads, the Assistant City Manager (ACM) provides key support and assistance to the City Manager and may serve as the Acting City Manager during absences of the City Manager.  A key member of the City’s Executive Team, the ACM is responsible for supervising and managing assigned staff within the City Clerk’s Office, Public Affairs, and the City Manager’s Intern program as well as acting as the liaison for Animal Services.

Police Public Information Officer

Madison, WI

The Police Public Information Officer plays a crucial role in daily external and internal communications of the Madison Police Department (MPD) by accurately and effectively conveying information in a proactive manner.  As MPD strives to maintain a cooperative climate in which the news media may obtain information on matters of public concern, and in a manner that does not hamper police operations or investigations, this position coordinates all media relations.

The Public Information Officer will foster positive relationships with the media, alders and other elected officials, community partners, departmental members and the general public.  The Public Information Officer works to release information, without partiality, through MPD website postings, social media platforms, news conferences and other avenues.  This position requires an attention to customer service, an understanding of police policies, procedures and investigations, and requires sound judgment and discretion in identifying, recommending, implementing, and evaluating the release of information to the community and the media.

The Public Information Officer is often the primary person interviewed for more significant/serious incidents or investigations, and is usually the first point of contact on a daily basis for media inquiries.  This position works closely with all members of the department, but most specifically the Chief of Police and other members of the command staff, and helps to develop and maintain communication strategies that maintain transparency and help build and foster community trust.

Communications and Engagement Coordinator

Montgomery, Ohio (Cincinnati)

The City of Montgomery is seeking a responsible and dedicated professional for the position of Communications and Engagement Coordinator. Responsibilities include communications, public relations, community engagement and marketing activities.

Examples of these responsibilities include managing social media, media and public relations support, coordinating Montgomery Citizens Leadership Academy activities, and new resident outreach.  The successful candidate must possess initiative; solid written and oral communications skills; and the ability to work well with the public and all levels of internal staff.  The successful candidate must also possess extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of communications, knowledge of public relations and media relations practices, and strong team skills.

Experience in communications for a local government or public entity is preferred.  Extensive knowledge of social media communications management is required, along with a bachelor’s degree in Communications or related field, or equivalent experience. The successful candidate must pass a background check and drug screen.

Communications Director

Grand Rapids, MI

This executive level position reports to the Assistant City Manager and provides support and counsel to the City Commission and executive office in all communications matters related to the City of Grand Rapids. This position is responsible for leading development and implementation of a strategic communications plan that maximizes proactive communications efforts while being responsive, as needed. This communications professional will serve as the primary media spokesperson on all City-related issues, including immediate crisis response, unless a City leader or department head is designated as the spokesperson.

This position is a team leader who manages the Office of Communications staff in the implementation of the City’s strategic communications plan. The Director serves as the Office of Communications representative on the City of Grand Rapids Communications Task Force, and leads other departments in coordinating and improving overall external communications programs. This person also works with the executive office, City Commission and staff to establish and enhance relationships and partnerships with local business and community groups.

Minimum Training and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, law or related field;
  • Seven years of experience in communication, journalism or related field
  • Multiple years of demonstrated experience in designing, managing and operating communication campaigns, projects and initiatives for a large corporate or other large institution

Communications and Marketing Manager

Petaluma, CA

Sonoma-Marin Area Rail Transit (SMART) is the Bay Area’s newest passenger rail service providing a safe, reliable and congestion-free transportation option for Marin and Sonoma counties. As the leader of SMART’s communications efforts, the Communications and Marketing Manager will provide oversight and direction to staff engaged in public information/community outreach activities and will assist Executive staff with media relations and communications. This position reports directly to the General Manager. As the head of the District’s Community Outreach Department, the Communications and Marketing Manager is responsible for the setting the strategic vision for SMART’s overall communications, marketing, advertising, and branding programs.

Any combination of education and experience that is equivalent to the following minimum qualifications:
Education:  Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in Marketing, Business, Advertising, Public Administration, Communications or a related field.
Experience: Five (5) years of marketing, public outreach or communications experience; at least one year of experience must be in transportation, public transit or a related field; plus Two (2) years of supervisory experience.

The annual salary for this position is $137,883 – $167,606 depending on experience and qualifications. Includes excellent benefits.
