Under direction, the Public Information Officer III develops, maintains, and implements a city-wide Public Information Plan; coordinates the provision of information pertaining to City Operations and services to City staff, the public, as well as the mass media; plans, schedules and implements special activities promoting City Departmental programs and services; assigns and reviews the work of subordinate Marketing and Public Information staff; identifies issues that may need special attention and recommends actions; advises on politically sensitive issues pertaining to city programs and policies; and performs related duties as required.

The Public Information Officer oversees public information and public engagement for the Benton County organization. Responsibilities include working collaboratively with the Board of Commissioners (BOC), County Administration, Directors, communications staff in County departments, management, and staff, to inform and educate the public, media representatives, community partners, stakeholders and other governmental agencies through a variety of communications, marketing, media relations, and community engagement and public relations activities.
 
The following minimum qualifications are required for this position:
• Bachelor’s Degree in journalism, communications, public relations, marketing, public or business administration, or related field.
• 1 year of professional communications experience.

PIO Deployment Requested – Kentucky

Hello everyone,

The State of Kentucky is officially requesting public information officers to support their ongoing tornado response and recovery efforts. They need three PIOs and one JIC manager.

PIOs would deploy to Frankfort for about two weeks. If you are interested in going and are able, contact your state emergency management office’s logistics team.

Here’s the official request:

A Public Information Officer (Type 3 or similar) is needed for interfacing with the public and media or other agencies with incident-related information requirements. Capable of monitoring and managing social media, creating press releases, and performing interviews. The PIO will bring mobile devices, MiFi, cell phone, camera. The PIO can be deployed to a fixed (EOC) or mobile (Field) location as required. Experience with supporting state and local EOCs and Incident Commands with Public Affairs and/or Public Information activities. Able to schedule and conduct interviews, participate in public meetings, and manage VIPs. Requested PIO will report to the KYEM state manager operations center in Frankfort and operate out of the state joint information center primarily.

The NEMCo Emergency Manager plans and directs the emergency management programs for the Cities of Lake Forest Park and Kenmore, WA, Northshore Fire Department and fulfills additional duties in cooperation with the Northshore Utility District.
