The City of Dublin is seeking candidates for Director of Communications & Public Information who reports to the City Manager and supervises eleven (11) staff including a Public Affairs Officer, Public Information Officers, a Multimedia Communications Specialist, a Digital and Brand Manager, a Digital and Graphic Designer, and an Administrative Support III.

The Director’s responsibilities include coordinating and implementing the City-sponsored internal and external communications and publications, marketing, media relations, social/digital media, brand alignment, multi-media productions, public affairs, crisis communication, and engagement with employees, key stakeholders, and other priority audiences.

Requirements include a Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or other relevant fields and extensive progressively responsible managerial public relations, communications, journalism, or other relevant experience. A Master’s degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications, or other related fields is preferred.

Salary range is $91,400 – $131,400. Starting salary is competitive and negotiable based on the qualifications and experience of the individual selected.

This position within the City of Los Angeles Department of Cannabis Regulation (DCR) represents a unique opportunity to join a fast-paced, innovative and exciting field of public policy and management with social equity at the core of its work.

The Public Information Director plans, develops, and administers a comprehensive public affairs and communications strategy for a City department; exercises strong judgment to advise management of the potential public relations effects of proposed actions; maintains strong relations with members of the media; serves as lead spokesperson for the department; advises on messaging and implementation of community outreach efforts; applies sound supervisory principles and techniques in building and maintaining an effective work force; manages internal agency communications and completes related work.

The Public Information Director will be responsible for managing robust and regular stakeholder and community communication and engagement, developing communications strategies regarding the Department’s Licensing, Social Equity Program and unlawful cannabis activity, as well as designing and developing a Public Information Campaign.

Additionally, the Public Information Director will also support Executive Leadership in the development and implementation of policy priorities and strategy.

The Department of Cannabis Regulation (DCR) is responsible for licensing and regulating commercial cannabis activity within the City of Los Angeles. In addition, DCR is responsible for the implementation of the City’s Cannabis Social Equity Program whose purpose is to enable those adversely affected by the war on drugs to have equitable access to the business ownership and employment opportunities within the newly legitimized local cannabis industry.  The DCR works with City leaders, community members, the cannabis industry and other stakeholders to ensure that the Program will achieve the aforementioned goals.

Santa Ana is seeking a creative self-starter who is committed to developing and pursuing communication opportunities that deliver key information about the City of Santa Ana to the public.  This high-energy professional will develop, manage and implement a City-wide public information, community outreach and marketing program. 

The position involves responding to inquiries and requests for information from the media and the public, composing press releases, overseeing the City’s social media accounts, conducting press briefings, and representing the City at public meetings.   The ideal candidate will be skilled in public relations, networking and marketing, and will seek opportunities to publicize the City’s programs, events and initiatives.  Strong writing skills are critical in the position, as is the ability to deliver both formal and quick-thinking verbal responses to questions accurately and diplomatically.  

The position requires four years of experience in professional media relations, governmental relations, community relations, or journalism.  Experience as a spokesperson for a complex public or private organization is desired.  A Bachelor’s degree in administration, communications, public relations may be used in combination with experience to meet the minimum requirements.  Special requirement:  Spanish fluency.
