Employment: Public Information – St. Charles Parish, LA

Public Information Specialist

Needed for local government for the Public Information Office to serve as parish’s relief spokesperson to the national and local media and will help develop and disseminate new releases and blogs and organize press events. Work involves assisting the Public Information Officer with media relations in his absence; is involved in journalistic and promotional writing, desktop publishing, presentation preparation, training website users across departments on best management practices of the content management system and working with printers and other agencies. Must be proficient in Adobe Creative Suite to coordinate the graphics identity of the parish under the general direction of the Public Information Officer. Under general supervision, performs specialized skilled clerical and computer duties in support of the Public Information Office.

Minimum Training and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in Mass Communication or a related field and 2 to 5 years of previous experience. Any equivalent combination of experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills and abilities.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Knowledge of general clerical procedures and business writing.
  • Skill in operating a variety of office and media equipment, including a working knowledge of video editing and professional desktop publishing software.
  • Ability to research and compile a variety of information.
  • Ability to write and edit information to apply correct grammar and spelling, including general knowledge of AP Style and media writing formats.
  • •Ability to meet deadlines and follow specified guidelines.
  • •Ability to assist with visually based projects for web, television, events planning and video production using knowledge of basic visual design.

NIOA Training Conference Registration Reminder

If you are planning to attend the annual training conference in August, we must receive your registration forms by June 30, in order for you to get the member rate of $495.00 (or $515.00 by credit card). If your form is received after June 30, you will have to pay an additional $100.

NIOA accepts both checks and credit cards for conference fees and cash at the door.
Please be advised there is a processing fee for credit cards. These fees will not be refunded. Purchase orders are not accepted.
ALL registrations must be paid in full prior to – or the day of – the event in order to attend.

Before June 30

Members
$495 with check
$515 with credit card
We must receive your membership dues and conference registration prior to June 30 for you to qualify for this rate. You may pay conference fees at the door.

Non-Members
$595 with check
$619 with credit card
We must receive your conference registration form on or before June 30 to get this rate. You may pay your conference fee at the door. This fee will give you membership in NIOA for the rest of calendar year 2016.

Refunds: Credit card refunds can only be made for 30 days after the initial charge date. Credit card process fees will not be added.

What to Wear

Meeting attire is business casual. We suggest dressing in layers since hotel meeting room temperatures can fluctuate.

Meals Provided

Continental breakfast will be available each morning Sunday-Wednesday.

There will be receptions Sunday and Wednesday nights with hot and cold hors d’oeuvres. Guests or spouses are welcome to attend the receptions, but children are not.
